The French Experience - New for 2010!
Our unique 7 day / 7 night cooking holiday
After 3 years searching for a suitable foreign venue we have finally struck gold! Nestling in the rolling countryside of Normandy in the Cherbourg peninsula is a charming little complex of gites, the result of 5 years loving restoration of an old farmhouse with cowsheds all now up and running as a holiday cottage retreat. The Pewter family from Castle Hedingham, Essex who own the complex have completed all the work themselves using all local materials.
In the company of various members of the Pewter family as well as Mark and Annie, we will cook, eat, drink, and visit local landmarks such as Arramanche, Pegasus Bridge, Cider and Wine producers, cheesemakers, copper factory and other as yet unknown visits.
The Jewel in The Crown will be foraging at the numerous open markets locally for our dinner ingredients! On our recent reconnaissance trip we hoovered the market at Ville-Dieu, groaning with squeaky fresh fish, smelly cheeses, dew-fresh Scarole Lettuces and other wonderful veg. We will transport them back to base and create dinner, but not before having a set 3-course lunch at one of the brasseries wherever we are.

The dates we have decided are Thursday June 10th to Thursday June 17th 2010, and Wednesday September 15th to Wednesday September 22nd 2010.
Ryanair fly from Stansted once or twice a day to Dinard which is about 1 hour 15 mins from our Destination. We meet you and after you land and we arrange transport for all visits during your stay, so no driving!
Cooked by you under the supervision of Mark David! Delicious wines to go with this food. We have secured the services of a local wine merchant who will do a fun wine tasting “Degustation”. We will be drinking his wines all week and you will be able to buy them to take home.
To local markets, food and drink producers, the local Oyster Beds, Cider and Calvados producers.
We will go to Arramanche, Pegasus and the American Museum for brief interesting visits.
We might need to do the odd walk to work off the food and drink, but lets not take that too seriously!!
All rooms have either ensuite shower and loo or adjacent shower and loo (no sharing with others although there are extra rooms and if a small group can share the shower room we can reduce the price). Comfortable gites all have their own sitting rooms and simple kitchens.
If we charge a supplement it won’t be exorbitant.
We will have space for a few partners who don’t want to cook but would enjoy the meals and visits!!
